1.1.Location, economy and trade
Bulgaria is located in the south-east of the EU, at the crossroads of Balkan and Black Sea routes. Its economy is strongly export-oriented, based on industry, services and EU linkages. In day-to-day operations, the strongest concentration of demand is around: Sofia, Płowdiw, Warna, Burgas, Ruse.
Trade is particularly connected with the following markets: Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and Turkey. For transport, recurring industrial and distribution flows to and from the main economic hubs are the key factor.
The currency is the euro (EUR); in the euro area since 1 January 2026. Always confirm the exchange rate before pricing freight, tolls or ancillary costs.
